Very captivating documentary. Though, I vocally disagree against your unfair appraisal of Ulysses 31. Dismissing this series as a ripoff of Star Wars, is like dismissing "The Mummy Returns" as an "Indiana Jones" ripoff: one established a setting and a certain benchmark for the entire genre, so the other is prone to share many similarities. But they are about as different as they get. Ulysses 31 is reinterpreted Greek Mythology with a dash of cosmic horror. The gist of this wonderful anime is that while Gods will is overwhelming and supremely cruel, there is always hope in sight as long as you fight for it. Ulysses doesn't duel an archnemesis with a light saber, instead he indirectly defy a way greater power in Zeus and manage to get away with it. Its statement is one against defeatism. The only big common points I see between U31 and SW is the hero's journey backdrop, some archetype similarities and the space setting. That's it. The ultimate undoing of U31 is its heavy handed maturity. This show can be very bleak at times, which doesn't exactly help it being an accessible work to the new generations. But I consider it to be a forgotten minor gem. And the artistic direction of Shingo Araki and assistant work of Michi Himeno... They made it a timeless splendor! Oh, by the way... Thanks for ripping a new one to "The Wacky World of Tex Avery". I hate this with all the fibers of my being. Saying that as a big fan of the golden age of MGM cartoons. I am ashamed that France, my country, gave this absolute pile of dookie water anthology the time of the day. Though, I am more angry against Captain N, for the waste of amazing potential. The show was supposed to appeal to NES gamers, but instead bastardized iconic characters they played with and grew to love over the years. I got to say I see grace in the chara-design of the main character and the production concept. The rest is good to throw away and redo. Now, this would be a good candidate for an overhauled remake, while enthusiasm for retro gaming still exists.

To be fair with Disney DIC was just part of the package that was included when they bought ABC sane with ESPN and the A&E networks. That said, you would think that DIC could had approached Disney and ask if they could do an series based on something Disney already owned. To maybe help the tv division out or maybe have DIC be Disney's go to television animation division while they had them. But apparently Disney didn't want DIC but basically had to take them if they wanted ABC. At least that appears to be the case.
